Off on holiday

That’s right, merely weeks before I intend to submit my PhD thesis, I’m heading off for a nice 10 day holiday. This could be construed in two distinct ways – either my PhD is going extremely well and I can afford to take 10 days off, or extremely badly and it makes no difference if I take 10 days off. I’ll let you decide which one is most likely to apply. Why am I doing this you ask? To learn paragliding of course. This physicist has had enough of riding around two-dimensional surfaces on bicycles – he wants to fly, and embrace the third dimension! A fortnight from now I should be a fully qualified paraglider with a license to prove it. To be continued…

  1. This has amassed some confusion. I’ve only ever seen hangliding from Mt Tamborine and this is what I assumed you were doing since that’s where you’re going. But it seems that paragliding is somewhat different – and while the internet assures me you can do paragliding at Mt Tamborine, I have my doubts. So which one is it? Hey?

  2. Paragliding. The internet is right that both paragliding and hang-gliding are done from Mt. Tamborine. Paragliding differs from hang-gliding in that you glide from a canopy rather than wings.
